It is important to start children off on the right path to living a healthy life, and a major factor involved is a child’s dental hygiene. Sealants are a clear protective coding that is placed on permanent back molars, and occasionally permanent pre-molars, that act as a barrier between the enamel (hard outer coating) on the biting surface of the teeth, and the bacteria that cause decay and cavities. The biting surface of a tooth is the most uneven area and; therefore, is prone to allowing food and bacteria to settle in the crevices while at the same time making it hard to get those areas completely clean. This is a quick and simple procedure that does not require any numbing or removal of existing tooth structure.
